A Sweet Harvest: Our 2025 Beekeeping Journey

This beekeeping season has been a wild ride, shaped by nature’s unpredictable whims. A cold spring gripped our region, followed by a sudden frost that caught us off guard. The chill stifled the blossoms on many fruit trees, leaving our bees with fewer flowers to dance among. Then, a wet start to summer slowed their foraging, as rain-soaked days kept them huddled in their hives. For the first time in years, we had no spring honey to collect—a stark contrast to our usual rhythm of harvesting both a light, floral spring honey and a richer, darker summer blend. This year, though, our bees have gifted us with a single, glorious batch of summer honey, and we’re thrilled to share it with you. The harvest itself is always a highlight of our year, a blend of hard work and pure joy.

Frames heavy with golden honey, pulled gently from the hives under the warm July sun. The uncapping process is where the magic begins. We carefully slice away the wax cappings with a knife, revealing the glistening honey beneath. Each frame gleams like a tiny, amber mosaic, and the sweet scent fills the air. Then comes the spinning—loading the frames into our extractor and letting it whirl, flinging honey against the walls in a sticky, golden cascade. It’s mesmerizing, like watching liquid sunshine pool at the bottom. The process feels like a celebration of the bees’ tireless work, and we’re just the lucky ones who get to bottle it.

Once the honey is extracted, we turn our attention to the jars. To ensure every drop is safe and pristine, we sterilize our glass jars in the oven at 160°C for 20 minutes. The jars come out sparkling and ready to hold the season’s bounty. Pouring the honey—thick, golden, and catching the light—is almost ceremonial.

Each jar is a small tribute to the bees, the flowers, and the long months of waiting through frost and rain. Our 2025 summer honey is now available at our self-serve stand, ready for you to take home and enjoy. This year’s batch is a beautiful, medium-bodied honey with notes shaped by the wildflowers and clover that dotted our fields through the summer. While we missed the light, delicate spring honey, this summer harvest is a testament to the resilience of our bees and the rewards of patience. Swing by the stand, grab a jar, and taste the story of a season that challenged us but delivered something truly special. We’re already looking ahead, hoping for a kinder spring next year and maybe a return to our light-and-dark duo. For now, though, we’re savoring the sweetness of this moment—uncapping, spinning, sterilizing, and sharing the fruits of our hives with you. Come get a jar and join us in celebrating the bees’ incredible work!
